J.Racenstein Catalog Photo Contest

Squeegee'd Window

We’re looking for pics that clearly show window cleaning tools doing their job, in your hands (or the hands of someone you work with). When possible the tools should be in as new condition as possible, but don’t hesitate to send in older equipment.

Specifically, we need photos that are bright, clear and hopefully colorful.

We’re looking for close-ups of your hands getting the job done:

  • A hand holding steel wool working on hard-water stains
  • A mop (t-bar) applying soapy water to glass
  • A squeegee removing soapy water
  • Before and after of a cleaning job, using a particular product (please name the product)
  • A hand holding a scraper on wet glass
  • A hand using a window cleaning rag or towel on glass or frames

Or, shots from further back that clearly show how a tool gets the job done.

  • A Ledger cleaning glass above a wide sill
  • A worker descending on a bosun’s chair (close up and/or further away)
  • A worker cleaning glass on a stack ladder
  • An extension pole being used to clean glass
  • Interesting water-fed pole shots
  • The inside of a tricked-out window cleaning van
  • A worker cleaning glass wearing one of J. Racenstein’s shirts
  • A worker coiling up a nice clean rope
  • A worker using a window cleaning bucket

Winterizing Your RO/DI Systems

Pure Water Systems for Window Cleaning

Winters coming in and purification systems are being put away. But you have to remember that they still need maintenance even when you’re not working. A few tips:

Drain your sediment, carbon, DI filters.
RO membranes are not meant to be dry so draining them is not a great idea.
This means you need to store the RO above freezing. So, most will store the entire unit above freezing.

If your only storage area is going to go below freezing, then get some heat tape from your local hardware store and wrap the unit up with it. It will turn on and off automatically and keep the unit warm.

Make several wraps around every cartridge with the heat tape to insure proper heat coverage.

Draining the cartridges serves two purposes:
1) To prevent freezing.
2) To prevent bacteria or mold growth

Tutorial: Dual Jet Brushes

Fan JetOften window cleaners want to run both fan jets and pencil jets on their waterfed poles during pure water cleaning. With a high quality fan jet, a drill and a little hair cut on the bristles will allow you to easier convert your single jetted brush, into a dual Jet brush.

You’ll find that Fan Jets give you a better rinse after scrubbing with your waterfed pole,  on hydrophobic glass. Hydrophobic means that the water beads up rather than sheets off (hydrophyllic)

Unger “Y” Tool – Euro Threaded Adapter

New from Unger. A Dual Euro Threaded Y Adapter for your waterfed pole.
Quite a few different uses for this tool.

  • One way would be to put it behind your waterfed pole brush along with an aluminum pad holder for that extra scrubbing power during cleans.
  • Or you can turn a standard extension pole into a waterfed pole along with the Euro Pole tip, wfp brush and hoses.
  • Final use would be as an indoor window cleaner. Use the pad holder with some microfiber pads and aerosol window cleaner and clean the glass.
