Grady KerrGrady started his business 4 years ago. He likes being able to have the flexibility to keep his family important and make time for his business.

He primarily does window cleaning, but loves hard water stain removal. Its almost as if he’s a super hero for the day for saving the glass that was originally thought of as  in need of replacement or living with the stain.

A funny story was a day when he was moving a ladder over a bit. Looking up at the time, walked over a little too much and stepped right into his water bucket. *squish*

Overall, he just likes to have a good time doing it.

Super Sized Earth – Window Cleaning Burj Khalifa by BBC

On the British Broadcasting Channel, they are currently airing a show called Super Sized Earth. In the video above you will see a short clip of the episode aired Nov 21st.
Supersized Earth traces the spectacular story of how humans have transformed our world in a generation. In this awe-inspiring three-part series, Dallas Campbell travels the globe, visiting the world’s largest and most ambitious engineering projects, exploring the power of human ingenuity and the making of the modern world.

In this episode, Dallas explores how we have been redesigning the planet as we build ever more astonishing places to live. In Dubai, he climbs to the very top of the world’s tallest building – over half a mile above the desert sand – to help clean the highest windows in the world; and he explores how desert wastelands have been transformed into bristling forests of skyscrapers as we’ve conquered the sky and turned it into a place we can call home.

In China, the rate of change is accelerating as millions move into the cities; to keep pace, they have learned to erect 30-storey buildings in under three weeks. The world is changing underneath our feet too; Dallas dives beneath Mexico City with one of the two-man team whose unenviable job it is to keep the city sewers flowing, before examining a very new-world solution to this age-old problem.

Warm Window Cleaning Hands During Winter Months

Window Cleaners often think first of working efficiently regardless of the circumstances.  The winter cleaning months create some unique cleaning conditions that require product choices that enable them to be efficient and warm.
The first area that one needs to consider is that of keeping hands protected from the elements and the water in freezing temperatures. The importance of keeping your hands warm & dry enough to work effectively and safely is paramount to the window cleaner working in winter conditions. Many of the gloves used for outdoor window cleaning are made to be waterproof while offering the utmost freedom of movement of fingers to cleaners. Neoprene is a synthetic polymer resembling rubber that is resistant to oil, heat and weathering and is commonly used in many weather resistant products including gloves for window cleaning. Many window cleaners opt to use neoprene gloves without liners to give them the best dexterity for finger usage while cleaning while sacrificing the warmth of a liner. Temperatures dictate much of which type of glove a cleaner will use. The usage of neoprene only will suffice to temps down to about 20 degrees. Colder temps will necessitate utilizing a liner along with the neoprene.
Often gloves offer curved fingers to reduce fatigue and velcro wrist straps to keep cold air and water from getting inside the glove. The grip a cleaner will have to grab tools while using gloves is important thus many winter cleaning gloves offer a non slip textured palm.
The second area that has to be considered is that of the water. When temps dip below 32 degrees, cleaners are forced to use methanol or other alcohols in their bucket to be able to continue to work outdoors. Not adding alcohol would cause the water to freeze when placed on the glass.  With the additive window cleaners are able get the water on the glass and back off again with a squeegee as they would at other times of the year.
The final area that needs addressing is the clothing in general.  Window cleaning require range of motion so often time big or bulky clothing will not allow for proper movement.  One has to layer their clothing so that the cold temperatures don’t affect their body temperature.  Of course as important as the outer clothing is proper footwear.  Boots that provide protection from wet conditions as well as being well lined are crucial.
So with the proper gloves, the right additive in the water and the proper clothing and footwear one is ready to brave the elements and face the cold weather in winter months.
