How to Get a Spot-Free Rinse with the Unger Rinse 'N Go

Most people wash their car at home using a rag and bucket of soapy water, then rinse it with a garden hose. While that’s fine for getting rid of dirt, bugs, bird droppings, and other types of contaminants, regular old tap water is going to leave spots on your vehicle, motor home, or home’s windows.

Here’s why.

Water is a universal solvent, which means it can dissolve and absorb molecules from a wide variety of organic and inorganic sources. While the water droplets eventually evaporate, these dissolved solids don’t. That’s why you get spots.

Just how much of these dissolved particles are in your water is referred to as the total dissolved solids, or TDS level. These solids can vary not only from city to city, but from house to house because the TDS level is impacted by a variety of things – minerals and chemicals in your water source, runoff from road salts or fertilizer, or even rust in the pipes of your home.

How Do I Test for TDS?

A TDS meter is a quick and easy way to test for your water’s TDS. For a hand-held TDS water tester like the one shown here, simply remove the cap, turn it on, and stick the correct end in the water you’re going to be using. The TDS tester has an electrical probe in the bottom of it that runs electricity through the water. The easier the electricity can travel through the water, the more minerals it contains.

The EPA recommends a maximum of 500 ppm (parts per million) TDS. For spot-free rinsing, however, you really need to keep the TDS down to 10 PPM.

How do I get a spot-free rinse?

The simplest way to get a spot-free rinse is to use deionization (DI), and the Unger Rinse & Go makes it super easy. With the Unger Rinse & Go, your tap water runs from your spigot through the Unger Rinse & Go. In the Unger system, the water flows through a specialized DI filter that removes inorganic chemicals down to tiny parts per million, then the filtered water runs out your hose and lets you have a spot-free rinse.

Unger Rinse &  Go

Get spot-free results every time you wash your car or windows!

With the help of the Unger DI water purifying filter, the revolutionary Rinse & Go system deionizes the tap water from your hose by pulling out all of the spot-causing minerals and contaminants. The result is water so pure it will dry without leaving spots or streaks. After washing your car, just rinse it with this pure water and go. You’ll get spot-free results with no need to hand dry. Works great for your home or office exterior windows as well!

How to Use the Rinse & Go

01.

STEP ONE

Connect the 8-foot blue hose to the tap.

02.

STEP TWO

Connect the other side of the blue hose to the inlet valve, located on the bottom of the Rinse & Go Unit

03.

STEP THREE

Connect your garden hose to the top of the Rinse & Go unity.

04.

STEP FOUR

Rinse your vehicle or windows thoroughly using purified water.

Pro Tips:

Only use the Rinse 'N Go after you've soaped and done an initial rinse with your regular hose. This will prevent you from wasting the DI resin.

Make sure you rinse good in the cracks and crevices.

How to Change Your DI Resin

To create purified, spot-free water with the Rinse ‘n Go, your tap water runs through a bag of DI resin, which is what filters the water. The more you use your Rinse ‘n Go, the more contaminants the resin will filter, until it eventually gets too dirty to purify the water. That’s when it’s time to change your resin filter.

To figure out if you filter needs changing, use the TDS meter that comes with your Rinse ‘N Go machine. Spray a little bit of DI water into a cup, remove the TDS meter cap, and dip it in the water. This will give you your TDS reading. You need to keep the reading at 10 or less for windows, 30 or less for vehicles. If it’s higher, it’s time to change your resin.

Your Rinse ‘n Go comes with an extra bag of resin, and you can also order additional refills here.

DON’T OPEN YOUR RESIN BAG UNTIL YOU NEED IT! The resin will naturally soak up contaminants, even from the air, so opening the bag before you need it can use up the resin prematurely.

CHANGING THE RESIN BAG

Step One

Turn off the water source.

Step Two

Release the pressure from the outlet hose by holding the trigger gun until water stops flowing.

Step Three

Push down on the locking lever located along the top of the Rinse 'N Go.

Step Four

Turn the Rinse 'n Go's cap counterclockwise until it clicks, then remove the cap.

Step Five

Pull out the old resin bag then replace with the new resin bag.

Step Six

Replace and lock the cap in place, and you're ready to go.
